Onward Christian Solider

Recently Pat Robertson made the comment that we, the United States should assassinate Hugo Chavez because Pat Robertson sees him as a threat to the United States. I guess the 10 commandments were lost on Pat; then again Pat’s 10 commandments very well may only apply to other Christians. Maybe someone should tell Mr. Robertson that Chavez is a Christian as well? Ann Coulter stated on the day after 9-11 that the United States should invade every Muslim country and put to death all those who opposed us then convert to Christianity all who remained, then again Ann and Pat don’t have family in this war as I do, so for them, the only casualty they will have to face is their own words.

The fundamentalist right and pro-war types have also been engaged in a full scale assault on Cindy Sheehan for her vigil outside the ranch of George Bush, using tactics that would have made any brown shirt Nazi in 1940 proud, as the Nazi’s quoted religious scripture but at least wouldn’t run over crosses identifying fallen soldiers. I don’t even agree with many things Cindy Sheehan says, but I do believe that she has the right to say them and state how she feels, after all this is America isn’t it? After all, I don’t agree with Fox news either but it has its place in a Democratic society as well.

Bush just stated that the anti-war movement is threatening America and I for one would like to know how one comes to this conclusion. As one of the tenants of Democracy is freedom; Freedom of speech, freedom of choice, freedom to disagree and to engage in dissent, but then again, Bush does not read much by his own admission. Maybe we could send Iraq our Constitution since Bush no longer sees any need for it? As the English Philosopher, Herbert Spencer once said, “The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly is to fill the world with fools.”

Army Reserves Lt. Col. Alice Bell, 46, who spent 10 months in Kuwait in support of the Iraq invasion, said she has heard nothing but praise since returning home. "It's not like in Vietnam, when they spat on troops coming back," she said. "Some people don't agree with the mission itself. But even if they're against the war effort, they're for the troops. They realize we're doing what we have to do, what we've been ordered to do, whether we agree with it or not." Similar statements have been made by a growing number of veterans, as they see that the anti-war movement is more about being against the policy of the government that not supporting their efforts. Jason Crawford, a Purple Heart recipient who was shot in the face by opposition forces in December 2003 while in Iraq even went so far as to say he feels protests are a vital part of American democracy.

"As long as they're not defiant against the troops or the president, then I think it's actually healthy for our society and government,"

Maybe Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Pat Robertson, and even President Bush should talk with some of these young men and women who have a better sense of what Democracy is actually about. Better yet, if they feel the war to be a just and noble cause then I suggest they enlist in the military and support it in a very personal manner, or does the cat have their tongue? Republican Senator Chuck Hagel has come under serious criticism from his comments about opposition to the Bush administrations handling of the war, just going to prove that not all Republicans live in the fantasy world of neoconservative doctrine. In case you are wondering, I happen to have US military enlistment forms for all of you who want to join the military and support this war; I will post the results in 30 or so days.

The Reverend Pat Roberston called for the 'whacking' of Venezuela's President, Chavez. As one might expect there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth from those on the left and from the right many sighs and shaking of heads. I wanted to look at this logically, without emotion.

If you take only what he said at face value, as scary as it seems, it makes perfect sense. One special forces team with bullets and some fancy gadgets, would be much cheaper than a full out and out war. It really is logical, cold but logical.

Please keep in mind, imho, the only reason this little pissant Chavez is of any consequence to U.S. interests is 15% of the oil we purchase, we get from..drumroll please...Venezuela. < I do NOT condone his 'whacking' however >
With the recent visit from China to discuss oil purchases, President Chavez finds himself to be man of the hour and is enjoying every moment of it. He finds himself in control of the world's heroin (oil), albeit not on the same level of the Arabs, but he's a player nonetheless.

The U.S. has become nothing more than a junkie. Always needing a fix, the more we need the more the price goes up. Any drug dealer on the streets could explain whats going on with oil.

Chavez has threatened an oil embargo. Watch the junkies behave, can military action be far off? Don't think so? Ever see a junkie when you threaten to take thier stuff? Let's just say rational behavior is NOT even considered, the only thing that matters is getting more. (The spice must flow)

-I quit smoking because I don't like something having control over me -I'm buying a bicycle, with a bell, pretty streamers and a "Got Oil?" flag for it.

In 1976, President Ford issued Executive Order 11905 to clarify U.S. foreign intelligence activities. This order basically banned the political assassination of foreign leaders after 8 attempts to the end the life of Fidel Castro were made. As to private individuals, well there is the matter of you and I saying something and then there is Someone like Pat Robertson saying it. I don’t know if you have seen Pat Robertson’s sermons but he has the audience captivated in such a way that it reminds me of the move Conan the Barbarian, when James Earl Jones who plays the mystical leader of a snake cult waves his hand and one of his followers jumps off a building.

Sucks that Hugo Chavez has that black crack we call oil that we so badly need, but just assassinating those who have in order to take what we want is reminiscent of the Road Warrior, and quite frankly, failure to plan on our part does not make them evil. Instead of using our poor use of petro as a catalyst for launching more research and technologies in to alternative sources of energy, we resort to violence, war, and basically bullying. We are fast becoming the nation we claim to despise.

"The criminal attempts of private individuals to decide for their country the question of peace or war, by commencing active and unauthorized hostilities, should be promptly and efficaciously suppressed." --Thomas Jefferson: 6th Annual Message, 1806
