As we enter into the 60th month of the occupation there are grumblings of lucidity beginning to emerge from the over medicated, asleep at the wheel population known as greater
I recently performed an experiment of sorts, one that is hardly scientific or definitive in any way, but an experiment on a very general level. I spent a few days trolling various online BBS sites, blogs, and chat rooms to get the view from a very general cross section of our population. What I found was more striking than I would have guessed.
Bush and his administration are about as popular as Lyme disease at the moment, but I suspect by the end of the month that their popularity will fall to about the level of Herpes. Some of you are saying to yourself that this is irrelevant, as I suspect many in the Bush administration are doing at the moment; consider that the current theme from most Bush supporters is along the lines of “At least he doesn’t have the worse ratings in history”, which is a far cry from only two years ago.
What is even more striking is that most people have avoided gravitating to the Democratic side of the isle. One would think that with the Republican Party in near chaos that the Democrats would be thrusting their stickman out there selling his snake oil, but for the most part there is little more than deafening silence.
The incoherent babbling that is normally heard when the issue of politics comes up is being replaced by honest to goodness bitching and complaining. We are still a long way from throwing tea in the harbor and pouring into the streets against the latest tyrants in office but the sentiment is growing. What makes this interesting is that this chorus of dissent is not emanating from a single political position but from the whole spectrum of
Will this recent rise in temper of the American people effect any real change in government, I doubt it. The division between those who govern and those who are governed has become great and the short term looks pretty bleak. I only hope that those in office will take notice that Americans don’t want Christians Mullah’s thumping their brand of extremism any more than they want some coastal Liberal egg head pushing the manifesto of egalitarianism while singing show tunes on top their battery powered Escalade.
Save your charts telling me how good the economy is, save your speeches about how much safer we are now that Saddam is in jail and show me real tangible evidence of policy. So while Cheney is spreading freedom and Democracy through torture and thumb screws and Hillary is on her knees in Israel, the rest of America is busy shopping at Wal-Mart for garden hose so they can siphon the gas out of their neighbor’s car, remember mid term elections are just around the corner. So get off your duff and end the apathy that has led to the occupation of

Nothing will change... people accept the bad and worsening situation, and that is the story of the world in a nutshell.
In 50 years, people will be wondering why things went so wrong during our time, and people will think that this could never happen again... but it will.

Long time no seen!!
Very well written! I like your style!
A revolution is brewing.
Let's pray that it is more peaceful than violent.
:)
Greetings Trausti old friend, a long time it has been. I happen to disagree that things will never change, as one thing I have learned is, never say never. Things do change, as the people in my country were not always so apathetic or held such an egocentric view, as the past of the United States has been one of great change. Sadly however, I feel that in order for any serious change to occur, be it political, social, or economic, a great upheaval will have to take place first. Nothing spawns change faster than hungry bellies, a poverty stricken society, or a society oppressed. We are a ways from that, but in many respects we are heading toward just such an end. As you well know, times now are one of frustration brought on by a combination of ignorance, complacency, and lack of fortitude. This is not just displayed by the United States, but much of devloped western nations. I can't predict what people will do with respect to the way things are today, but when I look to the past, I know what it will take to progress to a more enlightened society. See you on the board soon Trausti.
Grswave, thank you for the compliment. There is allegedly an Asian saying that was meant to be a curse said with polite courtesy: "May you live in interesting times", and I am still looking for that damn Chinaman who blessed us.
All kidding aside, revolution is a natural thing and in my opinion an inevitable thing. All things in life are cyclical, and more often than not return to their beginning. I feel America is not different than anyone else in that respect.
