Ok, I am about overcome with the vile taste left in my mouth after chatting with one of the anti-war crowd, as they just don’t seem to get it. For those of you who are of the position that the war in Iraq is wrong, or that job off shoring is unhealthy to the economy, or that religious fundamentalist and extremist pose more of a threat to the country than terrorist from Togo or Iceland, I say suck it up. Why do most of these people operate as how they see an end result; a nice peaceful paradise where everyone is singing kumbya and eating smores? I have nothing against anyone who wants to see a world where everyone gets along, the world is at peace and tomato’s just taste better, but in order to get there one has to realize that blood must be shed on the battlefield.
In this manner I have to admit that I admire the Bush administration, not because of what they have done but because of how they have done it. Karl Rove, like him or not has a take no prisoners attitude and those who oppose him are denounced, crushed and disposed of in a very tidy manner. Does not matter if they dig up some old piece of dirty news about you when you were 17, does not matter if they have to dig through garbage cans to find a credit card receipt for a Hustler magazine that you didn’t burn, they will use it and they will use it effectively. Karl and Klan understand that they are in a war, a war to promote their view as the only safe and viable view for all of us, and for the past five years they have pretty much done this unopposed.
Now granted September 11th occurred and the nation threw itself behind its leader with the attitude of “damn the torpedos, full speed ahead” and this played very well into the Karl Klan’s reshaping of the globe in their views. In addition to this there is another part, the complicity of the American press. Now I am not entirely sure as to why it has moved from being the fourth estate to the fifth column, but it most certainly has. At first I figured it was because they feared to appear as unpatriotic in the face of the attacks on the World Trade Centers, but here we are now a few years later and the press is fighting over who can lick this administrations boots the fastest.
With the latest bit about Karl’s Klan being the center of the whole Valerie Plame issue, people seem to forget what is most important, and that is that the whole war in Iraq was a media marketed circus for a spoiled boy from Connecticut who moved to Texas to play cowboy and wanted to show his pops he had the frijoles. People are falling right into the trap of diversion, focus on a leak, and while behind them the dam has already burst. Damn Karl and Klan are good, damn good.
So you have a mainstream media that is not in your favor, you have one of the most brilliant political strategists on the planet against you, you have a government that is not a majority in your favor and the odds are basically against you. So stop playing nice, it is time to start playing hardball, time to get dirty, and time to think of the challenges that lay ahead as a war, because that is what it is. Do not delude yourself with notions that you will defeat the imperialist, crush the empire, or thwart radical fundamentalist, as they will always and for all times be a part of the make up of our country. The only way you will be able to measure victory is the continuation of our ability to write, speak, and think as we wish without fear of ending up in Gitmo. So suck it up, stop being a panty waste and get to work.
